Aliki Stylianou holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in European and Economic Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She also studied translation and interpretation at the Universite Catholique d’ Angers in France, specialising in English, French, and Russian.
She joined journalism in 1993-94 at the broadcasting corporation “O Logos” and the newspaper “Phileleftheros”. From 1994 until 2012, she served as a Press and Information Officer at the Press and Information Office of the Republic of Cyprus. Concurrently, between 1995 and 1996, she held the position of Officer at the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission, where she was responsible for the implementation of Financial Protocols. From 1996 to 2006, she served as a Visiting Lecturer at the Cyprus Academy of Public Administration.
She also served in the public sector in various capacities, including the position of Officer in the Office of the Chief Negotiator for the Negotiations for the Accession of Cyprus to the EU, Mr Giorgos Vassiliou, as a Press Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, where she promoted the information campaign for Cyprus’ EU accession, as well as the position of personal assistant to the Government Spokesperson. She was also a member of the Cypriot delegation for the Cyprus problem negotiations in Copenhagen, the Hague, and Burgenstock. Furthermore, she worked as an Officer at the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Cyprus, where she was responsible for the designing and coordination of the pancyprian communication campaign for the adoption of the euro in Cyprus. Later on, she served as the Spokesperson at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus, focusing on crisis management.
From 2012 to 2022, she served as the Spokesperson of the Central Bank of Cyprus, and later on she became member of the Eurosystem and the European Central Bank’s Communications Group and was also a member of the communications network of the Bank of England. During this period, she was promoted to Head of the Monetary Management Department.
In 2021, she was elected President of the Cyprus Economists Association.
In June 2022, she was appointed, retroactively from 2017, as the Director of the Press and Information Office of the Republic of Cyprus.
