The Council of the EU, under the Cyprus Presidency, and the European Parliament have reached on Thursday a landmark agreement on reforming the Union’s customs framework, the most significant overhaul in 58 years, introducing a modern “toolbox” to address challenges such as the surge in trade volumes, particularly in e-commerce, the growing body of EU standards checked at the border, and complex geopolitical developments. The agreement has also been welcomed by the European Commission.
