If there is no progress on the Cyprus issue it is extremely difficult to move forward in other areas of the common EU-Turkey agenda, MEP (S&D) Nacho Sánchez Amor, rapporteur of the European Parliament’s 2025 report on Turkey’s progress towards joining the European Union, said on Wednesday. Sánchez Amor, who was speaking in a press conference about the report in Strasbourg also said that as long as there is no progress in democratic standards in Turkey, there can be no progress in the accession process, while he also criticised the European Commission and the European External Action Service for silence or extremely lukewarm statements in regards to Turkey.
