Cyprus Finance Minister Makis Keravnos is travelling to Dublin on Thursday to participate in the Eurogroup meeting and the informal meeting of EU Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, taking place on September 18 and 19.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance, the Eurogroup meeting on Friday, September 18, will focus on recent economic developments and economic policy priorities, with the participation of the Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs.
Ministers will also exchange views on improving productivity and competitiveness in the euro area, based on a presentation by OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann.
The informal Ecofin meeting will begin with a working lunch focusing on the competitiveness of the European banking sector, based on a recent European Commission report. Discussions will address the current situation in the banking sector and policy priorities ahead of the Commission’s forthcoming package of legislative measures concerning the banking sector, the press release added.
Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors will subsequently discuss the future of financial innovation in Europe, based on a discussion paper prepared by the Irish Presidency.
The discussion will include presentations by Stripe CEO Patrick Collison and Bank for International Settlements General Manager Pablo Hernández de Cos.
The meeting on Saturday, September 19, the Ministry said, will focus on the impact of artificial intelligence on European economies, based on a presentation by International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
Ministers will exchange views in particular on the impact of artificial intelligence on the labour market, the public sector, energy and the geopolitical environment.
