A second case of H5N1 avian influenza may have been detected in Cyprus after another dead bird was found on Wednesday at a lake in Athalassa National Forest Park and sent for testing, President of the Pancyprian Veterinary Association Demetris Epaminondas told the Cyprus News Agency. Meanwhile, Professor of Microbiology/Infectious Diseases Dr. Petros Karayiannis said there has been no human-to-human transmission of the H5N1 virus to date and that “there is no reason for concern” among citizens following the detection of the virus in a wild bird.
