Cyprus, an island nation with a significant presence in the Eastern Mediterranean, as a factor of stability in the wider region, is a very important partner in the context of the organisation of the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, said European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, in an interview with the Cyprus News Agency, as the country is preparing to take over the rotating EU Presidency on January 1st, 2026. Moreover, he stressed that tackling illegal and unregulated fishing constitutes a key goal and priority of the Commission.
