Freedom, democracy and peace must never be taken for granted, European Commission Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen and Commissioner Michael McGrath said ahead of the Europe-wide Day of Remembrance for the victims of all totalitarian and authoritarian regimes on August 23.
