Isolated thunderstorms expected from Thursday evening until Friday afternoon

The Department of Meteorology issued a yellow warning on Thursday for isolated thunderstorms that are expected to occur from the evening onwards.

The warning is in effect from 21:00 on 17/9 until 17:00 on 18/9.

"A disturbance located west of Cyprus, accompanied by an organised band of rain and thunderstorms, is expected to gradually affect our island," the Department of Meteorology says, noting that isolated heavy thunderstorms are expected at times, at first in the western half of the island and gradually in other areas as well.

Shower rates are expected to range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, hail is locally expected and the wind may be variable and strong with gusts up to 8 beaufort.
