The issue raised by Cyprus in collaboration with other member states regarding the need for immediate measures from the European Commission to address animal diseases will be discussed, among other topics, at the Council of Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries of the EU, taking place on September 29 and 30, under the Irish Presidency, with the participation of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Senekis.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture, Senekis, who departs today, Sunday, for Brussels, will have a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Council with the European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare Olivér Várhelyi, with whom he will discuss developments concerning foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus.
The significant issues expected to be discussed at the Council include discussions on the future of the Common Agricultural and Common Fisheries Policies as well as the state of agricultural markets.
Senekis will return to Cyprus on Wednesday, September 30.
