A yellow EMMA warning for rain, valid from 12:00 noon on Wednesday, Christmas Day, until 12:00 noon on Thursday, Boxing Day, was issued by the Department of Meteorology on Tuesday afternoon.

The Department says that “rain and isolated storms are expected to affect Cyprus at intervals.”

“Total rainfall is expected locally to exceed 55 millimeters during the 24-hour period,” it concludes.

At the same time, the Meteorology Department issued a warning for very strong winds on the west and north coasts on Christmas Day.

The warning, which is valid from 06:00 to 18:00 on Wednesday, states that “very strong southeast to southwest winds, force 6 Beaufort, are expected to affect the west and locally the north coasts”.

It added that “the sea in the west will be wavy and locally on the north coast rough to wavy”.
