Cyprus a "country that delivers", with reunification the overriding goal Spokesperson says

Cyprus today is «a country that delivers,» strengthens its defence readiness, expands its alliances, connects Europe with the region and «turns geography into strategy,» Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said on Wednesday, adding that the overriding goal is the country's reunification. He was addressing the 41st Annual PSEKA Conference in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. Also, members of Congress reaffirmed strong bipartisan support for Cyprus and the deepening of US-Cyprus and US-Greece relations, during speeches delivered in Capitol Hill at the PSEKA Conference, At the same conference, executive chairman of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), Aram Hamparian, called for justice for Cyprus and said now is the time for the US administration to act.

The crucial role of the Technical Committees in strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots was highlighted by the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín, during an open event organized Wednesday by UNDP Cyprus. Holguín, who is in Cyprus as part of her contacts aimed at preparing the ground for the resumption of the negotiating process on the Cyprus issue, described the technical committees as «the best example in Cyprus» of how dialogue and cooperation can produce tangible results. The UNSC envoy will hold on Friday afternoon a second meeting with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides.

The need to intensify efforts to determine the fate of Cyprus' missing persons and to make use of new photographic evidence and testimonies that have recently come to light was highlighted during an event held on Wednesday at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event, named «New Findings and Testimonies about Missing Persons of Cyprus», was organised by DIKO Member of the European Parliament Costas Mavrides, with the participation of MEPs, former prisoners of war from 1974, relatives of missing persons and representatives of the European Commission.

The good performance of the economy to date must be accompanied by a deliberate policy aimed at preserving its positive features, outgoing President of the Cyprus Fiscal Council, Michalis Persianis said, in his address accompanying the Council's 2025 Annual Activities Report. In another development, Cyprus recorded an unemployment rate of 4.4% in 2025, down from 4.9% in 2024, remaining significantly below the European Union average, according to data published by Eurostat on Wednesday. Also, ten cheques with a total value of €32,026 were included in May into the preliminary list of the Central Information Register (CIR), according to data published on Wednesday by the Central Bank.
