President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides travels to Rome for an official visit on Thursday and Friday, February 26 and 27, with Cyprus–Italy bilateral relations, regional developments, the Cyprus issue and the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU featuring on the agenda of his meetings.

The government is managing the foot-and-mouth disease crisis with «a plan, determination and full operational coordination,» Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou said on Wednesday, assuring livestock farmers that «no one is left alone.» Also, vaccinations of livestock were expected to begin on Wednesday, carried out by private veterinarians, following the detection of foot-and-mouth disease cases, the spokesperson of the Veterinary Services has said.

Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Michael Damianos travelled to Brussels on Wednesday to chair a meeting of the EU Competitiveness Council (COMPET) on February 26, for Internal Market and Industry. The trajectory of public debt remains downward and is expected to fall to levels below 60% of GDP once the official 2025 data are announced, said the Chairman of the Cyprus Fiscal Council, Michalis Persianis, who estimates that the downward trend in debt will continue in 2026 and possibly in 2027.

Rising sea levels that could go up to one metre by the end of the century could put half of Cyprus' coastlines at risk of disappearance if immediate measures were not taken, warned on Wednesday Dr Stavros Malas, President of the Cyprus Institute. Malas made his remarks during the opening session of the international conference on natural resource management, held in Nicosia.
